BARONS EARN TWO AWARDS AT AHL MARKETING MEETINGS

The Oklahoma City Barons earned two awards at the annual American Hockey League marketing meetings.
The franchise was honored for having the most unique Community Relations, Social Media or Game Operations promotion during the 2012-13 season for their Barons Buddies program with Special Olympics Oklahoma.
Barons Buddies pairs one player with one athlete from Special Olympics Oklahoma. The partnership assisted the players and Special Olympics athletes to form bonds that will last a lifetime. During the season, the players and athletes participated in four events, including a jersey auction on February 1 where Barons fans donated over $25,000 directly to Special Olympics. Over the last two seasons, Barons fans have contributed over $50,000 to Special Olympics Oklahoma.
Oklahoma City was also honored for retaining 90 percent of their Season Seat Holders for the 2013-14 season. The Barons were one of just five franchises to earn this distinguished award.
This season’s AHL Marketing Meetings were held at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio. More than 200 employees and executives from the 30 AHL teams met in downtown Cleveland to discuss best practices and innovative ideas in the areas of tickets sales, corporate sales, digital media and community relations.
Oklahoma City opens their 38-game home schedule with a weekend set of games October 4 and 5. In addition to the home opener, the Barons are scheduled to play at home November 12, 15 and 16 and December 20 and 21. The Barons annual Education Field Trip Day will be November 12.
Hockey season begins in Oklahoma City on Friday, September with the NHL Showcase presented by Mercy when the Edmonton Oilers host the Dallas Stars in an NHL Preseason game. For more information about tickets, call the Barons office at 232-GOAL.
