The Oklahoma City Barons have signed defenseman C.J. Ludwig to an AHL standard player contract for the 2014-15 season, General Manager Bill Scott announced today. Ludwig played collegiately at Northern Michigan University and hails from Little Elm, Texas.

Ludwig had his senior season cut short by a knee injury sustained on Nov. 29, 2013. Prior to that, he played in 13 games for the Wildcats with five goals and seven assists. He received the team’s Dallas Drake Defensive Player of the Year and Tom Laidlaw Best Defenseman Awards as a junior and was named CCHA Defenseman of the Week on Jan. 21, 2012 after a goal and assist against Ohio State.

Ludwig appeared in 36 games as a sophomore and received the team’s Tom Laidlaw Best Defenseman Award. He scored first collegiate goal vs. Ferris State on Feb. 3, 2012. He earned NMU’s Don Waddell Best Freshman Award after appearing in 35 games and led the team with 59 blocked shots.

He played for the Omaha Lancers of the United States Hockey League for two seasons (2008-10) and had 24 points on 17 assists and seven goals during the 2009-10 season. He also played two seasons with the Midget AAA Dallas Stars.
