OKLAHOMA CITY – The Texas Stars scored three first period goals and held off the Oklahoma City Barons for a 3-2 win Tuesday evening at the Cox Convention Center. The win snapped the Barons’ (19-7-0-1) three-game win streak as the Stars moved to 11-12-0-1 on the year.

Texas jumped on the board first when Stephen Schultz’s tipped in Ondrej Roman’s shot from the right point to give the Stars the 1-0 lead at 3:33. Raymond Sawada made 2-0 in favor of the Stars midway through the period, and Colton Sceviour tacked on the Stars’ third goal of the period late at 17:07 as Texas led 3-0 at the first intermission. The Barons matched the Stars in shots on goal as the two teams had 11 each at the end of the period.

The second period saw a change in goal for Oklahoma City as Yann Danis replaced David LeNeveu. The second was scoreless but saw the Stars jump out to a 21-13 shots on goal advantage in the period. Texas’ defense held Oklahoma City to just two shots in the frame.

Taylor Chorney
prevented the shutout with a four-on-four goal at the 8:31 mark of the third period. Chorney’s second goal of the year was assisted by Bryan Helmer and Ryan Keller to cut the Texas lead to 3-1.

Keller added the second goal with one second remaining in the game. Chris VandeVelde was credited with the assist on the goal. The Stars ended the game with the win and the advantage in shots, 30-19.

Oklahoma City closes out the current homestand on Saturday evening at 7 p.m. CT against the Houston Aeros inside the Cox Convention Center. The game can be heard locally on KTOK 1000 AM.
