The Edmonton Oilers dropped a 2-1 decision to the Detroit Red Wings Saturday afternoon at Joe Louis Arena on Hockey Day in Canada.
Barons forward Chris VandeVelde played in his first game for the Oilers this year, logging 11 minutes, 19 seconds of ice time and registering one hit.
Teemu Hartikainen and Jordan Eberle had the assists on Justin Schultz’s power play goal in the second period. Schultz and Magnus Paajarvi each had three shots, while Eberle had tow and Hartikainen had one.
The Oilers return to action Sunday afternoon at 5 p.m. CT against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
