MONSTERS STOP BARONS IN OPENER 2-1

Andrew Agozzino buried a shot from the right wing on a 2-on-1 rush with 3:33 remaining in regulation time to send the Lake Erie Monsters to a 2-1 win over the Oklahoma City Barons in the American Hockey League season opener for both teams in front of 12,011 at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland.
The clubs return to action Saturday at noon central time before the Barons return for the home opener Oct. 19 against San Antonio at the Cox Convention Center.
Lake Erie opened the scoring when Bill Thomas poked in a loose puck near the goal line at 3:05 of the second period. past Yann Danis, who made 27 saves for the Barons.
Mark Arcobello followed with a two-man advantage goal 14:16 into the second, beating rookie Sami Aittokallio (29 saves). Justin Schultz sent a cross-ice pass to Arcobello, who was open at the side of the crease and fired it into a semi-open net.
The Barons were 1-for-7 on the power play while killing off all six Lake Erie man advantages.
