The Oklahoma City Barons (13-10-1-3) hosted division foe Texas Stars (15-8-2-2) Friday night at the Cox Convention Center. The Stars downed OKC 3-0.

Texas outshot the Barons by a count of 15-6 in the opening period, however neither team was able to punch one past the goaltender as zeroes remained on the scoreboard after one frame.

The second period provided fans with more excitement as the Barons had a couple good scoring opportunities, but they were unable to capitalize. The Stars scored the games’ first goal in the second when right wing Reilly Smith slapped at a rebound of a Maxime Fortunus shot from deep in the slot.  The puck found its way past Barons goaltender to give the Stars a lead the would never relinquish.

Oklahoma City came out firing in the third period, mustering several shots early in the frame.  However Stars’ netminder Christopher Nilstorp was up to the challenge.

The Stars added on to its lead at the 10:39 mark in the third period when Luke Gadzdic blasted a shot right over the glove of Danis to make the score 2-0.

The Barons were unable to gain any momentum thereafter, including an extended period of time with the goaltender pulled in favor of an extra attacker for nearly two minutes. The Stars iced the game with an empty-netter with 44 seconds left on the clock to yield a final score of 3-0.

The Barons were held scoreless on five power-play attempts on the evening.

Oklahoma City will be back in action tomorrow night at 7 p.m. in a rematch with the Texas Stars.
